Smerinthus cerisyi is widely distributed in North America, from southeastern Alaska to Newfoundland, south to Baja California, Texas, and Alabama. It is usually found in river valleys and near wetlands. The forewing is pale gray and dark brown with wide and narrow lines. The hindwing is red with a yellow- outer margin, and a blue eyespot with a black center. The wingspan 62-99 mm. The adults do not feed. The larva’s host plants include willows (Salix spp.), poplars (Populus spp.), and various Rosaceae. This species flies from May through August; one generation a year.
